Ventura County is appearing on more movie screens lately, including in the top box office draw. . . . The makers of “Twister” went north of Simi Valley to shoot an ancillary tornado scene for the blockbuster, which has sold about $100 million in tickets. The area’s special charm? Only that it was “green and flat,” says a Warner Bros. spokesman.

Mr. Clean

Before returning to banking, Michael Orman of American Commercial Bank (D9C) was general manager at a Ventura manufacturer of equipment to clean soil and ground water contaminated by gasoline. . . . Orman called marketing in recent years “difficult,” because potential customers “would rather spend their money doing things that would return profit to the bottom line.”

Never Too Busy

Camarillo’s Casa Pacifica, a haven for abused and neglected children, is mentioned in a new guide for busy people who want to share some of their scarce free time. Volunteer coordinator Milet Parker says the agency needs guest speakers, one-on-one baseball coaches and those who can teach music lessons. . . . To assist, call Parker at (805) 445-7831.
