Abilene Christian in Position to Complete a Historic Sweep
Thanks to surprise victories by Stephen Moore in the decathlon and Jamie Hallmark in the women’s high jump, Abilene Christian moved one step closer to becoming the first collegiate track and field program to sweep the men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor NCAA championships in the same school year.
Under Coach Wes Kittley, the Wildcats were strong on the second day of the three-day Division II meet at UC Riverside and are a heavy favorite to duplicate the sweep they accomplished at the indoor championships in March.
“Our goal all year was to win both the indoor and outdoor titles because that is something that has not been done at any level,” said Kittley.
The Abilene Christian men had 38 points and will probably put an end to St. Augustine’s seven-year domination.
Abilene Christian’s women trail Cal State Los Angeles, 34-33, but the Wildcats are loaded with finalists for today and were helped by Hallmark’s high-jump victory.
