DIVISION II

Saugus (26-4) vs. Woodbridge (28-5), Mayfair Park, Lakewood, 7:30 p.m.

Top-seeded and defending champion Woodbridge is trying to become only the third team to win five section softball titles (1987, ‘88, ‘92, ‘95). Christy Robitaille (21-4, 0.37 earned-run average) has 19 shutouts and gets plenty of offensive support from third baseman Lizzy Lemire (.370, 23 runs batted in), first baseman Ashley Boone (.364), designated hitter Jackie Sukiasian (.335), second baseman Nichole Thompson (.324) and right fielder Lisa Watanabe (.314). Two seniors have come up with critical hits lately: Sukiasian, in a 4-0 quarterfinal victory over La Crescenta Crescenta Valley, and Lolita Harper, who had the game-winning RBI in a 1-0 semifinal victory over Santa Maria Righetti. Harper is batting .357 in 10 games since being benched. “I think she took it personally,” Coach Alan Dugard said. Third-seeded Saugus has won 16 in a row and is making its second appearance in the final. Saugus lost to Woodbridge, 2-1, in eight innings in 1992. Jamie Gillies, who is headed to Michigan, is 23-3 with a 0.48 ERA. The offense is led by shortstop Nicole Giordano (.510, 27 runs), catcher Jill Passafiume (.351, 19 runs) and Arizona State-bound third baseman Chris Gill (.269). The teams have played once this season, with Woodbridge beating Saugus, 3-0. Lemire hit her only homer of the year off Gillies.
