Low Pressure System Bringing Cooler Days

Temperatures in the San Fernando Valley are expected to continue cooling off, providing relief from the 100-degree-plus highs last week, the National Weather Service said.

The high pressure system that caused last week’s hot weather is still hovering, but a low pressure system has begun to slide over it, providing Valley residents with more seasonable temperatures.

“It’s on the mark, pretty much,” said Bill Hoffer, a spokesman for the weather service in Oxnard.

The Valley this week will also have morning fog and low clouds--typical for this time of year. These come from strong on-shore breezes that bring in moisture and the resulting annual “June gloom.”

“Some people call it that,” said Hoffer. “I love it. It’s nice and cool and with cool nights you can sleep.”

The low pressure system formed in the Gulf of Alaska last week has been slowly moving south. It’s at approximately 15,000 feet elevation, enough to slip over the dome of high pressure.

High temperatures in the Valley today will be in the mid-80s in Burbank and Glendale, upper 80s in Northridge and in the low 90s in Woodland Hills and Canoga Park. No rain is predicted.
