A magnitude-7.7 earthquake struck in the ocean off the Aleutian Islands Sunday night, but no damage was initially reported.

The quake was centered in the Pacific about 60 miles west-southwest of the island of Adak, or 1,250 miles west-southwest of Anchorage, said geophysicist John Minsch of the U.S. Geological Survey National Earthquake Information Center in Golden, Colo.

The quake was reported at 9:04 p.m. PDT.

The Alaska Tsunami Warning Center issued a watch for tsunamis from Point Sur, Calif., to Alaska’s Kodiak Island.
