May is Merry For Rookie Outfielders

Rookie outfielders Todd Hollandsworth and Roger Cedeno have made great strides after getting off to poor starts.

Hollandsworth, who hit .234 in the first month of the season, improved by 85 points, hitting .319 in May, while Cedeno, who hit .211 in April, batted .284 last month.

Chan Ho Park, who hasn’t given up a run in his last 10 1/3 innings of work and has struck out 16 batters during that span, will make his seventh start of the season tonight against the St. Louis Cardinals in place of Ramon Martinez, who was weakened by the flu.

Martinez, who missed last Thursday’s scheduled start against the Pittsburgh Pirates, said he hopes to pitch Tuesday night.

Damian Rolls, the Dodgers’ first pick in last week’s draft, agreed to terms with the club and will report to Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Fla., today for a mini-camp. . . . Reliever Todd Worrell collected his league-leading 17th save, working a scoreless ninth inning. . . . Tom Prince started in place of catcher Mike Piazza, who was in a four-for-20 slump. Piazza pinch-hit for Prince with two outs and a runner at third in the seventh, but was intentionally walked and pinch-hitter Dave Hansen popped out to third. . . . Cincinnati shortstop Barry Larkin sat out the game because of back and neck spasms.
