Class Prez
What is a visiting U.S. president worth in students? About 2,000--at Glendale Community College, anyway. To properly host President Clinton today, the campus has canceled all classes before noon, giving 2,000 students the morning off, said spokeswoman Merry Shelburne. . . . After today’s visit, Clinton (A3) heads to New Mexico.
Up and Down
The good news: Home-buying last month in the Valley continued to pick up steam. The bad news: Prices remain in a slump. . . . During May, the Valley saw a fifth straight monthly increase in home sales but a 3% decrease in average prices (D7A). . . . “It’s still very much a buyers’ market, but the buyers are out in greater numbers,” said John Marquar of the Valley Assn. of Realtors.
Animate Objects
Cyber-surf over to Warner Bros.’ new Web site, and Bugs Bunny, above, will greet you with a list of links where you can meet other cartoon creations of the Burbank-based studio. . . . Beyond the commercial, the site has an educational component: Visitors can go step by step through an overview of the animation process, from storyboard to screen. Waste Not, Want Not
If City Councilman Hal Bernson has his way, the city will provide free curbside horse manure pickup to horse owners throughout L.A., with the smelly stuff to be sold to a fertilizer manufacturer for cash. A council committee considered the idea Monday, but opted to hear testimony from animal-regulation officials before making a decision. . . . About 600 horse owners in the Valley already get the free pickup service. Bernson wants to extend it to all 2,000 licensed horse owners.
