USA Waste to Acquire Sanifill: USA Waste Services Inc., the country’s third-biggest trash company, agreed to buy Sanifill Inc. for $1.64 billion, the companies announced, expanding the former’s reach to more of the U.S. and into Canada and Mexico. The deal is likely to hasten a consolidation trend as increased costs for landfills and collections force companies to look at buying each other to become more efficient. After the merger, USA Waste’s annual revenue is expected to jump from $900 million to $1.3 billion with total assets of more than $2 billion. USA Waste is paying 1.7 shares for each of Sanifill’s 25.9 million outstanding shares, meaning Sanifill stockholders would get about $1.27 billion worth of USA Waste stock.
