Church Lock-In Ends With Bankruptcy Filing
Members of the All Peoples Lockhaven Christian Lighthouse Church in Inglewood packed up and went home Monday after a weeklong lock-in ended with the church filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Under Chapter 11 reorganization, the congregation will be allowed to stay on the church property until the court determines that its financial situation has been resolved. The reorganization also prevents a Christian lender, which acquired the property last week, from evicting church members.
“We filed for Chapter 11 because it seemed to be an appropriate remedy to the situation that had developed,” church lawyer Fred Cassity said.
The church lost its property to the Fullerton-based Church Development Fund last Wednesday. The funding group loaned the church $70,000 in 1982. In exchange, the church agreed to sign over the deed to the three-acre property, valued at $2 million, and to remain a Christian church.
