Genis to Leave Council in Bid for Water Board

Sandra L. Genis confirmed this week that she will leave the City Council after two terms in office to seek a position on the board of directors of the Mesa Consolidated Water District.

“It is an interesting time to be involved in water issues,” said Genis, referring to a proposal by Assembly Speaker Curt Pringle (R-Garden Grove) to eliminate several special districts in the county, including Mesa Consolidated, by merging them with other agencies.

In its current form, the bill would combine Mesa Consolidated with either the city of Costa Mesa or with the Irvine Ranch Water District.

Genis said she was also compelled to run for the seat because she does not believe that current board member H. Jack Hall, who represents her district, has been working hard on behalf of the community.

Three other seats on the five-member Mesa Consolidated board--those held by Trudy Ohlig, Mark Korando and R. Michael Healey--are also up for election in November. Ohlig and Healey have both said they plan to run again. Korando has not yet announced his intentions.
