Jean Howell Thor; Environmental Activist With Heal the Bay
Jean Howell Thor, 68, activist who championed environmental efforts in Santa Monica Bay. A novelist and actress in her youth, Thor had spent the last decade as a 20-hour-per-week volunteer with the Heal the Bay organization. She headed the group’s speakers bureau, training about 200 speakers to give ecology talks throughout Southern California. She gave many speeches in the continuing effort to clean up the bay. On July 23 in Santa Monica of cancer.
