A 22-year-old Westminster man was in custody Thursday on suspicion of murder and attempted murder for allegedly driving a getaway car as a friend shot two men in a parking lot, police said.

Duy Quang Pham, a convicted felon, is suspected of being among the group of men Monday who confronted and killed Nanh Minh Tran, 26, of Garden Grove in the parking lot of the Quan Tri Ky restaurant, Sgt. Mike Handfield said. Another man was wounded.

Police said the 1:30 a.m. confrontation apparently was triggered by a dispute over a woman. Police continue the search for other suspects and are investigating it as a gang-related crime.

Pham is not the suspected shooter, but he “was a participant, we believe, not just someone who was around when this happened,” Lt. John Woods said.

Pham was convicted in 1993 of burglary and in 1994 of assault with a deadly weapon, according to Orange County court records.

He was held Thursday at the Orange County jail in lieu of $250,000 bail, Handfield said.
