Wally George Faces Surgery for Blood Clot
Wally George, the bombastic conservative talk show host, said Saturday he is “very, very nervous” as he faces surgery to remove a blood clot from his brain that resulted from a fall two weeks ago.
“I can’t get to sleep at night,” said the 64-year-old George, who will undergo an operation Tuesday afternoon in Los Angeles.
The host of the television show “Hot Seat!” said he fell down a set of metal steps and struck his head July 28 after a taping session at KDOC-TV Channel 56 in Irvine. George said doctors told him he faced “certain death” if he did not have the clot removed.
“They said it’s very, very serious,” George said.
George, who called news organizations to announce the impending surgery, asked supporters to “say a little prayer for me” on Tuesday.
George described the operation as “very delicate” but with a 99% likelihood of success.
The clot removal is but the latest in a string of health-related travails for the icon of late-night TV.
George underwent surgery for prostate cancer in 1994 and suffered six broken ribs and hemorrhaging in a car crash in Woodland Hills in April.
“This has not been my time,” George said.
