Ukrainian Wins the All-Around
The air conditioner blew her ribbon away, but it couldn’t take the gold from Ukraine’s Yekaterina Serebryanskaya.
Serebryanskaya’s scores in the first three routines were high enough to give her the gold in the rhythmic gymnastics individual all-around, even with the mistake in her final exercise.
“I think I deserve it if I got it,” Serebryanskaya said. “All women who do rhythmic gymnastics are queens. But for right now, I’ve got the gold medal so I think I’m the princess.”
Ianina Batyrchina of Russia won the silver and Elena Vitrichenko of Ukraine took the bronze. The only American in the competition, Jessica Davis, didn’t make it past the qualifying round and finished 30th.
