Cinecon 32 Will Celebrate Historic and Notable Films

Cinecon 32, the oldest and largest annual convention devoted to rare silent and early talking films, will take place Aug. 29 through Sept. 2 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, 7000 Hollywood Blvd.

Among the silent films to be screened are Lois Weber’s “Hypocrites” (1914) and Tod Browning’s “No Woman Knows” (1921). Early talkies include “Clear All Wires” (1933) with Lee Tracy and “She Had to Say Yes” (1933) with Loretta Young. Fay Wray will appear with Josef von Sternberg’s first sound film “Thunderbolt” (1929), and writer-director Abraham Polonsky will present a newly restored version of his “Force of Evil” (1948). Other guests will include Virginia Mayo, Virginia O’Brien and Stanley Kramer.

The 70th anniversary of the Vitaphone sound process will be celebrated with a Laurel and Hardy program.
