Abraham Lincoln (A&E; early Wednesday at 2 a.m.) D.W. Griffith, the silent era’s greatest innovator, made his sound debut with this 1930 bio in which Walter Huston is a fine Honest Abe but which lacks the bravura of Griffith’s great silents.

Husbands (Bravo Friday at 10 a.m.) John Cassavetes and his off-screen buddies Peter Falk and Ben Gazzara play three married friends on a desperate flight into adolescence and irresponsibility. Cassavetes’ 1970 film has a ruthless improvisatory quality, digging into these men’s callous high jinks and then, almost offhandedly, exposing the despair and uncertainty beneath.
