Mayor Nominates 3 Residents to Panels

Three San Fernando Valley residents were among 10 people nominated Friday to city commissions by Mayor Richard Riordan.

The appointees will go before the entire City Council in the next few weeks for confirmation, according to Noelia Rodriguez, an aide in the mayor’s press relations office.

The three Valley residents are:

* Valerie Aronson of Encino was nominated to the Cultural Heritage Commission. Aronson is a member of the city’s Japanese Gardens Advisory Board. Her term is scheduled to end in 2001.

* Robert Arias of Sylmar was nominated to the El Pueblo Historic Monument Authority. Arias is the southwest regional director of Cities in Schools Inc., which promotes stay-in-school programs in 28 states. He is also a former executive director of the Bilingual Foundation of the Arts. His term expires in 2000.

* Juanita De Sosa of Pacoima was nominated to the Rent Adjustment Commission. She is a member of the NAACP and was on the Black Education Commission of the Los Angeles Unified School District. The term ends May 20, 1998.

The other nominees are: Helen Bernstein of Los Feliz, to the Library Commission; Jennifer Taggart of Los Angeles, Environmental Affairs Commission; John Wilson of San Pedro, Board of Harbor Commissioners; Angela Oh of Los Angeles, Human Relations Commission; Rose Sloan of Hollywood, Industrial Development Commission; Alan Arkatov of Cheviot Hills, Board of Information Technology Commissioners; and Gerald Chaleff of West Los Angeles, Planning Commission.
