Car Was in Tiptop Shape

With the season coming to a close, many players are trying to figure out what to do with the cars they purchased earlier. It brought to mind another one of JetHawk Manager Dave Brundage’s stories.

He and a teammate at double-A Vermont once paid $200 for an old car they referred to as the “blue bomber.” When the season was over they weren’t quite sure what to do with it.

“We gave it to the guy who took our bags at the airport,” Brundage said. “We said, ‘Here’s your tip.’ ”

Marino Santana, who was passed over for his normal spot in the rotation on Friday because he’s been struggling, hasn’t had quite as bad a season as his 7-14 record and 5.13 earned-run average would indicate.

He’s among the lead leaders with 151 strikeouts and he’s only walked 52. The league is hitting just .265 against him, one point worse than the average against Ken Cloude, the JetHawks’ ace.

The one number that’s basically blown his season--22 home runs allowed.
