In the effective 1992 TV movie No Child of Mine (CBS Sunday at 9 p.m.) Patty Duke plays an emotionally volatile grandmother who fights to adopt her mentally disabled grandson after her daughter decides to place this twin with a caring couple who raise children with Down’s syndrome.

The Doctor (ABC Sunday at 9 p.m.) invites us to relish the spectacle of a hard-driving hotshot physician, in this case William Hurt’s heart and lung specialist, diagnosed with a malignant growth in his throat, finding out that there is more to life than insensitively bludgeoning your way to the top.

With director Sidney Lumet working from a script by horror-meister Larry Cohen (“Q”), the 1993 Guilty as Sin (Fox Monday at 8 p.m.) is a teasing sex-and-slaughter erotic thriller, with better characters than usual. As a hotshot female defense attorney and her randy client, an accused wife-killer, Rebecca De Mornay and Don Johnson use innuendo and sex appeal as weapons.

Rapid Fire (Fox Tuesday at 8 p.m.) is a first-class 1992 hard-action film that’s a terrific showcase for the late Brandon Lee in his first starring role.

Flashback (KTLA Thursday at 8 p.m.) finds Dennis Hopper as a renegade hippie on the run from the FBI since the ‘60s. The 1990 movie is too strenuously “inventive,” and its nostalgia for the ‘60s is vapid. Still, the first half hour is mostly terrific, Hopper is in fine, weird form (comedy suits him).

Sidney Lumet’s engrossing 1990 drama Q&A; (ABC Thursday at 9 p.m.) stars Timothy Hutton as a brand-new New York assistant district attorney whose investigation of the killing of a Puerto Rican drug addict by a veteran cop (Nick Nolte) confronts him with wide-spread corruption.
