Fluor Corp.: The Irvine engineering and construction company posted improved results in the fiscal third quarter as new orders grew.
Net income for the quarter ended July 31 rose 13.1%, to $68.1 million, or 81 cents a share, from $60.2 million, or 72 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue jumped 10.9%, to $2.7 billion from $2.44 billion.
“The promising issue at Fluor remains the strength of their new orders,” said Marc H. Sulam, an analyst at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Securities Corp. New orders surged 19% in the quarter, to $3.11 billion from $2.61 billion a year earlier.
For the first nine months, net income climbed 14.1%, to $189.2 million, or $2.24 a share, from $165.8 million, or $1.99 a share, for the same period a year ago. Revenue rose 14.9%, to $7.7 billion from $6.7 billion.
