Budget Rent a Car to Pay $350,000 Fine: The firm agreed to pay that amount to settle claims that it failed to register some cars used in California and didn’t comply with emission control and equipment standards, representatives said. Lisle, Ill.-based Budget Rent a Car Corp. denied any wrongdoing in the case. Los Angeles County prosecutors said Budget will pay $132,000 in delinquent registration fees and $120,000 in civil penalties for failing to comply with state emission control standards and vehicle registration requirements. The company will also pay $98,000 in investigative and legal costs under the civil settlement. Budget believed the settlement was in the best interests of the company and its franchisees in California, a company attorney said in a statement.
