Downed Power Line Blamed for Fire

The brush fire that scorched 100 acres late Wednesday was started by a downed power line, not an arsonist as earlier believed, fire investigators said Thursday.

Investigators determined that a power line fell onto an oak tree and sparked the blaze about 4:15 p.m. near Reeves Road and the private Ojai Valley School. The fire, which briefly threatened the school, spread quickly along the rugged edge of Los Padres National Forest, officials said.

More than 100 firefighters from seven agencies contained the blaze by about midnight. Crews continued to mop up hot spots Thursday morning.
