2 Men Die in Apparent Gang Shooting
Two men died of multiple wounds in a suspected gang-related shooting Saturday night, police said.
Renee Soto and Jose Romero, both 20 and from South Los Angeles, were found badly injured lying in front of their bullet-torn car.
Officers discovered Soto and Romero outside a Subway sandwich shop near Zelzah Avenue about 8:30. p.m.
Sgt. Bruce Cowan said police believe the initial shooting took place a few blocks away near Lindley Avenue and Hiawatha Street, when occupants of an unidentified vehicle drove by and sprayed the victims’ car with gunfire.
Cowan said both men were shot in the upper body.
Soto was taken to Holy Cross Medical Center, and Romero was admitted to Northridge Hospital Medical Center. Both died a short time later.
