Council Approves Annexation Proposal

By a unanimous vote, the City Council this week approved measures for a possible annexation of land to the city.

The action, if approved by the county’s Local Agency Formation Commission, would add only about seven sites for new homes. However, it would be just the second annexation since Villa Park incorporated in 1962.

The vacant land being sought is currently within the boundaries of Orange. The Orange City Council has already agreed to cede the isolated lots to Villa Park.

“This exchange of land would straighten out our city’s boundaries,” City Manager Fred Maley told the council on Tuesday night.

He said the recent realignment of Cerro Villa and Mesa drives, which form part of Villa Park’s border, left small pockets of city of Orange land within the Villa Park area. Similarly, Maley said, tiny sections of Villa Park ended up on the Orange side of the boundary.

To smooth out the situation, both cities agreed to swap the land, Maley said. Villa Park would end up with more land gained than lost, however.

The Villa Park council also formally petitioned LAFCO to approve the proposed new boundaries of Villa Park and Orange.
