Encino resident Lucy McCoy has been elected president of the Board of Library Commissioners, which governs the Los Angeles Public Library.

McCoy has been a board member since April 1995 and vice president since July of that year. The board elected her president earlier this month.

As a managing partner of L.A. public affairs firm the Apex Group, McCoy assists private, public and nonprofit groups with communication strategies. A central part of her stated mission as board president will involve upgrading library services.

“LAPL will continue to ensure equal access to the latest in advanced information technology throughout the city,” she said.

McCoy is co-founder and president of the California Small Business Forum and vice president of the Library Foundation of Los Angeles, the major fund-raising agency for the LAPL.

There are 71 branches and bookmobiles in the LAPL system, including 18 in the Valley.
