1996 PREP PREVIEW / GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL : Dana Hills
Coach: David Hollaway (second year).
1995: 12-5, 8-2 in the South Coast League; tied for first in league with Mater Dei and San Clemente; advanced to second round of Southern Section Division I playoffs, losing to Laguna Beach.
Key returners: Jami Bari, 5-10, setter/outside hitter, Jr.; Amy D’Urso, 5-10, middle blocker, Sr.; Jami Fowler, 5-10, middle blocker, Sr.; Leslie Punelli, 5-6, back-row specialist/outside hitter, Sr.; Michelle Quon, 5-5, back-row specialist, Sr.; April Schleede, 5-10, opposite/setter, Sr.; Jenny Wilson, 5-10, middle blocker, Sr.
Key newcomers: Michelle Chambers, 5-11, outside hitter, Jr.; Brianna Tuebner, 5-7, back-row specialist, Jr.
Outlook: The Dolphins are loaded with talent. Bari was one of the most dominant hitters in the county last season, averaging 23 kills per game. Hollaway moved her to setter this season because last year’s setter, Richelle Danet, graduated. Dana Hills will run a 6-2 offense so Bari will get some help with the setting duties, probably from Punelli and Schleede. Chambers, a transfer from Santa Margarita, is a powerful hitter. Key will be the defensive play of Punelli and Quon.
