Big Canyon’s Manos Wins SCPGA Event

Kelly Manos of Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach birdied the fourth playoff hole Wednesday to win the Southern California PGA/L.A. Cellular Section Championship at Ironwood Country Club in Palm Desert.

Manos’ 20-foot putt gave him the victory over Brett Stuart of Tahquitz Creek. The two were tied at 10-under 206 after both shot final-round 69s in the 54-hole tournament.

Manos received the $6,000 and exemptions to the L.A. Nissan Open, San Diego Buick Invitational and Bob Hope Desert Classic on the 1997 PGA Tour.

Antrone Lee, who played basketball at Florida as a freshman, has transferred to Long Beach State and will be a redshirt for the 1996-97 season, 49er Coach Wayne Morgan announced. Lee, a 6-foot-7 guard/forward, is from Thomson, Ga. At Florida, he appeared in 26 games as a reserve, scoring 10 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in 131 minutes.
