Cal State Northridge d. Portland State, 15-13, 15-3, 15-10--Nancy Ma had 14 kills and 13 digs to help the Matadors post their first victory of the season in a Big Sky Conference opener at Portland State.
Nicki Medwin added nine kills for Northridge (1-8).
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Kennedy d. Roosevelt, 15-6, 16-18, 15-1, 15-7--Christine Thach had 12 kills and Stephanie Ong had 32 assists as the Golden Cougars (1-0) beat the Rough Riders (1-1), defending City Section 4-A champions, in a nonconference match at Roosevelt.
Notre Dame d. Canyon, 15-11, 15-3, 15-12--Annie Renaud broke a Notre Dame school record with 15 blocks at Canyon. Kathryn Martin had 13 kills for the Knights (3-0).
Flintridge Sacred Heart d. La Canada, 12-15, 15-8, 15-12, 15-7--Danielle Dal Ponte had 12 kills and Audra Grim added 11 as Flintridge Sacred Heart (3-0) rallied in a nonleague match at Flintridge.
Holly Doran had eight blocks for Flintridge Sacred Heart.
Camarillo d. Rio Mesa, 15-0, 15-3, 15-7--Kasey Jungwirth had 10 kills and setter Tana Peraza had 15 assists to lead the Scorpions (2-0) in a nonleague match at Camarillo.
L.A. Baptist d. Calabasas, 15-5, 15-13, 15-5--Gloria Erickson had 11 kills for the Knights (2-1) in a nonleague match at Calabasas.
Brooke Niles had 17 kills for Calabasas (1-2).
St. Bonaventure d. Nordhoff, 11-15, 15-10, 15-8, 15-10--Jamie Behm had 20 kills and Kristen Jones added 14 as the Seraphs (3-0) rallied in a nonleague match at Nordhoff.
Saugus d. Glendale, 15-8, 15-3, 15-7--Lauren McCartin had 12 kills for the Centurions (2-1) in a nonleague match at Glendale.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Pepperdine 2, Hawaii 1--Freshman striker Jennifer Peterson and junior midfielder Eva Popper scored first-half goals for the Waves (6-2) in a nonconference game at Pepperdine. Hawaii is 0-6.
Moorpark 2, Orange Coast 1--Britt Christiansen scored the winning goal in the 65th minute as the Raiders (3-1) edged the Pirates (3-1-2) in a nonconference match at Moorpark.
Moorpark’s Cindy Valle scored in the 30th minute to force a 1-1 halftime tie.
GIRLS’ TENNIS
Ventura 9, Hart 9--The Cougars won on games, 68-66. The only set that came down to a tiebreaker decided the match as the Cougars (4-0) prevailed in a nonleague match at Ventura.
Ventura’s No. 2 doubles team of Summer Kemick and Jill Anderson defeated Nancy Hwang-Caterine Pucci, 7-6 (9-7), to tie the team score. Hart is 0-3.
Oak Park 9, Royal 9. The Eagles won on games, 73-67. No. 2 singles player Mana Abari won three sets by 6-0 scores to spark the Eagles in a nonleague match at Rancho Simi Community Park.
Canyon 13, Hoover 5--Beth Topf won her three singles matches to lead Canyon (2-1) past Hoover (0-5) in a nonleague match at Canyon. Topf improved her match record to 6-3.
Nordhoff 10, St. Bonaventure 8--No. 1 singles player Brianne Chapman defeated Erin Herrera, 7-5, and the No. 1 doubles team of Haley Wilbur and Sarah Blaine swept their sets to lead the Rangers (2-1) in a nonleague match at the Ojai Valley Racquet Club.
BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY
Notre Dame 17, Chaminade 41--Sean Tallungan clocked 17 minutes 40 seconds to win the three-mile as the Knights (1-0) took the top four places in a Mission League meet at Chatsworth Park.
