Capital Cities / ABC Becomes ABC: Walt Disney Co. said it will change the name of its Capital Cities/ABC Inc. unit to ABC Inc. today. “The shorter name, ABC Inc., familiar to viewers and listeners since ABC’s inception in 1953, seems more appropriate now that it is a division of a corporation,” Disney said in a statement. Burbank-based Disney’s $19-billion acquisition of Capital Cities/ABC became final Feb. 9. New York-based Capital Cities owns the ABC broadcasting network and the ESPN cable channel, along with various other TV and radio stations.
