Oilers Forfeit Three Victories in Cross-Country
HUNTINGTON BEACH — The Huntington Beach boys’ cross-country team forfeited three Sunset League dual-meet victories because of an administrative error involving a transfer student, Athletic Director Dave Van Hoorebeke said Wednesday.
Senior Ronnie Alvarez, who transferred this fall from Westminster High during open enrollment, participated in Huntington Beach’s first three league dual meets without the school having filed an open enrollment certificate to the Southern Section office, Van Hoorebeke said.
The Oilers, ranked No. 4 in Southern Section Division II, forfeited victories over Fountain Valley, Edison and Los Alamitos. A victory last week over Marina will stand because Alvarez’s eligibility had been cleared before that race.
“Our title is in our hearts,” Huntington Beach Coach Eric Anderson said.
