West Signs Basketballs for Youth Programs

National Basketball Assn. Hall-of Famer Jerry West, a.k.a. “Mr. Clutch,” has come through once again.

West, a 14-time All-Star during his playing days with the Los Angeles Lakers and now the team’s executive vice president, recently autographed two basketballs that will be among a collection of sports memorabilia to be raffled in a benefit for youth sports programs in the city of San Fernando.

San Fernando Recreation Supervisor Gwen Indermill said West met with her and signed the balls when he learned that they will be used to generate money for the city’s youth activities.

In addition to the balls signed by West, raffle items include balls and athletic gear signed by Tommy Lasorda and members of UCLA and CSUN sports teams. Recreation officials said that more items would be added to the list before the raffle is held in April.

Money raised through the raffle will subsidize the city’s youth sports programs. Tickets cost $2 each. For more information call Nicole De La Cerda at the San Fernando Recreation and Community Services Department, (818) 898-1290.
