Suit Filed by 3 Who Lost Home in Plane Crash
Three former roommates at a Fullerton townhome complex, whose home was destroyed last year when a small airplane crashed into their building, have sued the estates of the plane’s two pilots.
The lawsuit filed Tuesday by Alan White, 30, Ed Borgelt, 31, and Robert Corbin, 28, in Orange County Superior Court seeks damages to replace their personal property and to compensate them for the crash. It alleges that the pilots, Michael Benson and Leslie Arehart, were not licensed to land in foggy conditions.
The pilots were trying to land the single-engine plane on Nov. 20, 1995, in dense fog at Fullerton Airport. The plane crashed into the townhouse complex at 1811 W. Malvern Ave., exploding in flames and killing both pilots and a woman asleep in one of the rooms.
The suit also names the insurance company covering the airplane and the townhome as well as owners of the townhome.
