Florida Panther Coach Doug MacLean, a former Detroit assistant, tried to act as if a 4-2 victory over the Red Wings on Sunday at Detroit wasn’t anything special.

“It doesn’t mean a thing,” MacLean said. “Well, maybe a little bit.”

Mark Fitzpatrick made 28 saves and Brian Skrudland scored the game-winner as the Panthers remained unbeaten in their last six games. Robert Svehla, Radek Dvorak and Tom Fitzgerald also scored for Florida.

New York Rangers 6, Montreal 2--Brian Leetch got his 600th point, scoring a goal and assisting on another to lead the Rangers at New York.

Leetch reached the milestone with an assist on a first-period goal by Sergei Nemchinov that tied the score, 1-1, at 7:45. The assist stretched his point-scoring streak to 14 games.

San Jose 4, St. Louis 3--Owen Nolan scored twice in the first period and Bernie Nicholls had a goal and an assist as the Sharks won for only the second time in nine games at St. Louis.

Geoff Courtnall, Stephane Matteau and Peter Zezel scored, and Jim Campbell had two assists for the Blues.

Philadelphia 4, Vancouver 3--Scott Daniels broke a third-period tie when he redirected Kevin Haller’s shot with 7:51 remaining at Philadelphia.

Daniels, stationed next to the left face-off circle, tipped Haller’s high drive from the point down and between the legs of goaltender Corey Hirch.
