Authorities on Tuesday released the name of a 36-year-old Thousand Oaks man who died in a crash while apparently racing another vehicle at about 90 mph on the 118 Freeway in Moorpark.

Alberto Gutierrez Jr. died of major head trauma when he was ejected from his car after the 7:41 p.m. Monday accident east of Collins Drive, said Dave Cockrill of the California Highway Patrol. Gutierrez died after swerving into a 60-foot-wide gravel center divider to avoid rear-ending two tractor-trailers traveling side by side in the freeway’s westbound lanes, Cockrill said.

His vehicle overturned, spraying debris on impact over the eastbound lanes, Cockrill said. Three vehicles were hit by the debris, but they were not seriously damaged.

The vehicle Gutierrez was apparently racing maneuvered between the trucks and did not stop, Cockrill said.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the CHP at 654-4571.
