Arcadia to Dedicate Ball Field to Ex-Mayor

In memory of former Arcadia Mayor and Councilman Dennis A. Lojeski, who died after attending a ballgame last summer, the City Council will dedicate a baseball field in his name Jan. 12.

The dedication ceremony for “Dennis Lojeski Field” at Eisenhower Park will serve as a lasting memorial to the 13-year councilman, said George Fasching, a friend and former council colleague.

“A large group of Dennis’ friends got together and approached the City Council, and they very much approved of the idea,” Fasching said.

Just four months after narrowly winning reelection, Lojeski died Aug. 11 from a brain aneurysm. The 52-year-old civic leader went into a coma and died at a local hospital. He had had headaches while driving home from a Rancho Cucamonga Quakes minor league baseball game with his son and a friend.

In April, Lojeski, a local dentist, won his fourth term on the council by 37 votes. He served on the council from 1982 to 1990 and again from 1992 to his death, twice serving as the city’s mayor.

Civic leaders and friends are expected to attend the 1:30 p.m. ceremony at the park at 2nd Street and Colorado Avenue.
