Buckeyes Win Rose Bowl With Late Dramatics
Just when it appeared that Ohio State would be snake-bit in the Rose Bowl, the Buckeyes showed some fangs of their own.
Quarterback Joe Germaine’s five-yard pass to freshman David Boston with 19 seconds to play gave Ohio State a 20-17 victory over previously undefeated Arizona State before 100,635 in Pasadena on Wednesday.
That ruined second-ranked Arizona State’s chances for the national championship, which will undoubtedly go to the winner of tonight’s Sugar Bowl matchup between No. 1 Florida State and No. 3 Florida. The national championship hopes of Ohio State (11-1) were ruined when it lost the final game of the regular season to archrival Michigan.
Arizona State quarterback Jake “The Snake” Plummer had rallied the Sun Devils (11-1), scoring the go-ahead touchdown on an 11-yard run with 1:40 to play.
