Hill, Not Jordan Top Vote Getter

Detroit’s Grant Hill has replaced Chicago’s Michael Jordan as the overall leader in fan voting for the Eastern Conference starting team in the NBA All-Star game.

Hill, who led the overall voting the past two years, has 196,634 votes to 183,556 for Jordan.

Among forwards, Chicago’s Scottie Pippen is second to Hill with 151,402 votes.

Following Jordan in voting for guards is injured Anfernee Hardaway of the Orlando Magic, who has 105,400. Detroit’s Joe Dumars is third with 83,368.

New York’s Patrick Ewing leads centers with 111,313 votes.

The game will be played Feb. 9 at Cleveland.

The Charlotte Hornets put reserve forward-center Matt Geiger on the injured list because of back spasms.

Geiger, who has averaged 9.4 points and 5.2 rebounds, sat out four games in early December, also because of back spasms.

A normal five-game minimum stay on the injured list won’t be required because the Hornets don’t plan to replace Geiger on the active roster. As long as he is not replaced, Charlotte can activate him at any time.
