Falcons Beat Tustin in 4th Overtime

Santa Ana Valley’s Tim Werdel scored all five points in the fourth overtime to give the Falcons a 67-64 victory over Tustin in a nonleague boys’ basketball game Friday at Santa Ana Valley.

Neither team scored in the first three overtimes after finishing regulation tied, 62-62. Werdel finished with a game-high 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Falcons (7-8).

In other nonleague boys’ basketball:

Anaheim 69, Fairmont 31--Tru Nguyen had 20 points and 12 rebounds and Shu Todoroki had 11 points and 11 assists for visiting Anaheim (7-4), which led, 32-14, at halftime.

Brea Olinda 62, Sunny Hills 49--Chris McMillian scored 16 of his game-high 25 points in the first half as Brea Olinda took a five-point halftime lead. Sean Wink had 13 points for the Wildcats (11-3).

Capistrano Valley 58, Edison 54--Ryan Thurlow scored a game-high 22 points to lead Capistrano Valley (9-5), which took a 37-29 halftime lead. Austin Moherman added 19 for the Cougars. Edison is 8-5.

Dana Hills 52, Irvine 42--The Dolphins scored only four first-quarter points, but rallied to outscore Irvine 22-7 in the second to take a 26-16 halftime lead. Tadeu Souza led Dana Hills (10-5) with 12 points.

El Toro 73, Trabuco Hills 70 (OT)--Fabrizio Mendiola went four for four at the free-throw line in overtime to clinch the victory for El Toro (12-3).

Mendiola finished with 28 points and teammate Mark Wulfemeyer added 15 for the Chargers. Chris Majors had a game-high 29 for Trabuco Hills (7-6).

Estancia 60, Orange 54--The teams were tied after the first, second and third quarters before Estancia outscored Orange, 23-17, in the fourth. Brandon Casillas gave Estancia a three-point lead after making two free throws with 47 seconds remaining. Selwyn Mansell scored 18 points and Sam Nelson had 13 for the Eagles (11-4).

Foothill 63, Savanna 61--Ryan Fries, who scored a game-high 24 points, made a three-pointer with 40 seconds remaining to give Foothill a two-point lead. Enele Boone scored 23 points for Savanna (3-10).

Katella 59, Western 30--Katella won its 10th straight game behind Joe Barraza and Kenny Moreno, who each scored 14 points. Moreno also had 12 rebounds and Ryan Luther scored 12 points for the Knights (11-3).

Laguna Beach 46, Corona del Mar 42--Chris Sirianni had 14 points, eight rebounds and seven steals and Kraigher O’Keefe had 13 points for Laguna Beach (7-7).

Marina 58, Santa Ana 37--Donald Lank scored 12 points and Scott Austin had 10 for visiting Marina (10-4).

Mission Viejo 53, Canyon 35--Commander King led Mission Viejo (10-5) with 18 points. Teammate Gabe Burt added 12 for the Diablos. Canyon is 6-5.

Ocean View 53, Fountain Vally 42--Jason Martini scored 16 points and sophomore Tony Dow had 10 assists and eight rebounds for Ocean View (10-4).

San Clemente 73, Westminster 61--Jan Tatala had 22 points and eight rebounds and Semaj Johnson added 16 points for the host Tritons (12-2).

Ly Nguyen scored 30 points for Westminster (6-7), which closed within four midway through the fourth quarter. But San Clemente pulled away, scoring numerous layups after breaking through Westminster’s pressure defense.

Santa Margarita 87, Esperanza 66--Brad Gloger scored 27 points, T.J. Williams had 13 points and 12 assists and Ryan Forehan-Kelly had 19 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for the host Eagles (8-5).

Drew Gaulden scored 17 points for Esperanza (6-8).

Troy 48, Cypress 41--Troy took a 26-19 halftime lead and held on for the victory. David Sun led Troy (10-5) with 14 points, Scott Blake added 13 and Jerry Inzunza scored 10. Wes Bunn led Cypress with a game-high 16 points.

Valencia 66, La Habra 48--Robert Smith scored 24 points to lead Valencia, which led by 16 at the half.
