Mark Your Calendar for 2001 at the Pond
The Pond of Anaheim has been awarded the NCAA men’s basketball West Regional finals for the 2001 season. The facility has already been selected to host the 1998 West Regional finals.
“We’ve been pursuing the NCAA since the building was built in hopes of landing the NCAA tournament,” Pond spokesman John Nicoletti said. “It’s another tremendous coup for the building.”
The Pond can not host a Final Four because the building seats only 18,000 for basketball. The NCAA requires the host site for a Final Four to hold at least 20,000.
Tickets go on sale in March for the 1998 West regional finals. In 1999, the Pond will host the NCAA hockey championship.
“The NCAA obviously has found this building to its liking,” Nicoletti said.
