A 20-year-old man was shot after being confronted by two people in a Port Hueneme shopping center, authorities said Saturday.

Officers were called to the Trade Winds shopping center in the 800 block of North Ventura Road about 10 p.m. Friday. They found that 20-year-old Andrew Shafter had been shot once in the left arm, according to Port Hueneme Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Smith.

Authorities did not release Shafter’s city of residence.

Shafter told officers he was confronted by two people, identified by authorities as Latino boys. One was about 12 years old, the other 15 to 17, Smith said.

One of the youths pulled a small-caliber handgun and fired two or three shots, striking Shafter once, according to Smith. He was taken by ambulance to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

Authorities say the 12-year-old is about 5 feet, 9 inches tall with a thin build and shaved head. He was wearing short pants and a T-shirt. The second youth had a thin build and a shaved head and was wearing dark pants, Smith said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Sgt. Jerry Beck at 986-6530.
