Disney’s No Angel to Baseball Fans

Where are Disney’s priorities? As an Angel season ticket holder since 1961 (Wrigley Field, Chavez Ravine and Anaheim Stadium), was I ever saddened and disappointed when I received my 1997 season ticket package.

The Walt Disney Co. portrays itself as a wholesome family organization, but they moved us to accommodate a new breed of Angel fans--fans who are willing to pay $59 per seat--for baseball. I realize this price includes all you can drink, which is quite a dichotomy from the “family section” out in left field, which promotes no drinking.

I heard Tony Tavares, president of Disney Sports Enterprises, speak at a breakfast. He stated that Disney was going to construct dugout boxes, and those in the first few rows would be moved slightly, [implying] we would be moved a few rows back. The truth is we are being relocated from aisle 12 to aisle 18--quite a change.

It seems ironic that Disney will spend $90 million for severance pay to one individual who toiled for one whole year, but refuses to spend the money on players who could turn the Angels or Mighty Ducks into champions.

I will try to remain an Angel fan and hope Disney will not do to the Angels what Georgia did to the Rams.

Let me get this correct. I used to sit in “Anaheim” Stadium, where I could watch the people drive by that didn’t want to watch Nolan Ryan pitch a one-hitter and lose.

Now I get to drive by a “Disneyland” stadium and look at the seats that I can’t afford to sit in.
