Woes Continue for Loyola Marymount, 81-67
LOS ANGELES — Loyola Marymount Coach John Olive must get tired of giving postgame interviews, having to come up with new ways to say basically the same thing.
“They shot the ball unexpectedly well from the outside,” he said of UC Santa Barbara, the latest team to beat the Lions, posting an 81-67 nonconference victory Saturday night at Santa Barbara.
“That forced us out of our zone and then to more man-to-man defense than we wanted to play. I was disappointed in our lack of physical play inside. They controlled the paint almost all game.”
By doing so, the Gauchos improved to 5-5 while the Lions fell to 3-9.
Forward Raymond Tutt provided most of the offense for Santa Barbara, scoring a game-high 28 points and making three of six three-point baskets.
Forward Kealon Wallace added 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
The only players to put any significant points on the board for Loyola Marymount were, as usual, forward Ben Ammerman (23) and guard Jim Williamson.
The Lions shot only 48% in their final nonconference game.
