First Day
Assemblywoman Sheila Kuehl, right, admitted she was nervous on her first day presiding over the Assembly. Her usual tailored blazer and slacks were replaced by a blue silk pantsuit and scarf. . . . The feminist attorney’s new wardrobe drew wows from other lawmakers. “My staff made me buy new clothes,” said Kuehl, the Assembly’s first woman speaker pro tem, who represents Santa Monica and the West Valley.
Film Fest
Budding filmmakers have one week to enter February’s Santa Clarita International Film Festival. . . . Entries are due Jan. 15. Only catch: The movies have to be family themed, with no gratuitous sex or violence, frontal nudity or “obscene profanity.” Profanity that is not obscene, presumably, is fine.
