It was hardly a surprise to Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds when it was officially announced Tuesday morning in New York that he had received a record-tying 12 Grammy nominations.

He’d learned about it Monday at about 6 p.m. when he signed onto the Internet, where the nominations had been mistakenly posted on the Grammy Web site by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences.

“The information systems person apparently goofed up and posted it late [Monday],” said academy President Michael Greene. “They came back [about] 1 in the morning and took it off, but there was a two- or three-hour window there.

“We talked to the guy who did it, and he’s totally mortified.”
