Times Staff and Wire Reports

Omaha millionaire Phil Sokolof, whose campaign against the fast-food industry caused it to discontinue the use of beef tallow and tropical cooking oils, is taking aim at sports stars Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan in ads in some newspapers today. He calls on golfer Woods, who has signed lucrative endorsement deals since turing pro last year, not to sign with McDonald’s. Sokolof says in the ad that by appearing in McDonald’s commercials, Chicago Bulls star Jordan has helped sell “greasy, fat-filled sandwiches.” Neither athlete could be reached for comment.
