From Times Wire Reports

President Alberto Fujimori said he will not give in to Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement rebels holding hostages since Dec. 17 but pledged “there are not going to be acts of blood” to end the crisis. Two Japanese journalists with Asahi Television who sneaked past police and spent about two hours in the residence where 74 hostages are still held were taken into custody by police. Earlier, gunshots sounded at the compound. Red Cross worker Jean-Pierre Scharer said shots were fired by a rebel, but that no one was injured. He said he did not know why the shots were fired. Meanwhile, radio reported the capture of Tupac “military leader” Carlos Dario Perez, but the arrest could not be immediately confirmed.
