A parachutist who jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge was still at large Wednesday, but an employee of an Irvine company videotaping the stunt was arrested, authorities said.

Christopher Caines, 39, who organized the “extreme sports video,” was in a Marin County jail on suspicion of conspiracy, the California Highway Patrol said. Officers confiscated cameras and tapes from crew members on shore shooting the video for the Waterland Entertainment Group of Irvine.

The unidentified parachutist climbed bridge cables to the top of the North Tower, 746 feet above the San Francisco Bay, and jumped at 7:38 a.m. Wednesday, CHP spokesman Terry Sims said.

He got into a recreational watercraft driven by Caines, then was transferred to an 18-foot boat. Neither he nor the boat’s driver have been found, CHP spokeswoman Ruth O’Brien said.

The parachutist will face trespassing charges, O’Brien said.
