The Bruins have won four in a row, including two victories at home over the Washington schools, but preseason favorite Stanford, with its roster full of big bodies down low and quick shooters on the perimeter, is a truer test for UCLA’s aggressive zone defense and still-unproven ability to move the ball around fluidly on offense. Stanford senior Brevin Knight is the premier point guard in the West and he usually excels against the Bruins. Stanford won at Maples Pavilion last season without center Tim Young, who is back and scoring at a 16.9 clip after taking a medical red-shirt last season.
