Chargers Waiting for Gilbride?

NFL insiders say San Diego General Manager Bobby Beathard is waiting for the Jacksonville Jaguars to lose so he can hire offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride, known best previously for getting into a sideline skirmish with Buddy Ryan while with Houston, to be the Chargers’ new coach.

The St. Louis Rams have interviewed former Charger coach Bobby Ross, Philadelphia defensive coordinator Emmitt Thomas and San Francisco defensive coordinator Pete Carroll. Minnesota Coach Dennis Green is also under consideration by the Rams.

Ross has interviewed with Atlanta and Detroit. The Lions apparently have agreed to let Ross bring his entire coaching staff from San Diego and become involved in personnel decisions, which makes Detroit the leading candidate to hire him.
