Klein finished ninth on the tour money list last season and won two tournaments. She begins the 1997 season at the Tournament of Champions today at Weston Hills Country Club in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Pro move: Cal State Northridge women’s basketball Coach Michael Abraham said he has applied for a coaching position with the Los Angeles franchise in the new Women’s NBA.

“At this stage of my career I’ve got to protect my family,” said Abraham, who doesn’t have a contract beyond this season at Northridge. “I’m not seeking a move, but if someone inquires I will take a look.”

Abraham is a longtime friend of Rhonda Wyndham, the general manager of the Los Angeles WNBA franchise.

Although Abraham is only 8-31 in 1 1/2 seasons at Northridge, he was an assistant during the building of strong programs at Long Beach State and Oregon State.
